Scottish Quality Wild Venison (SQWV) is the industry’s own safeguard that the meat that reaches the consumer has been procured and handled to the highest standards.
Quality First
The SQWV Scheme’s aims are:
- Scotland’s deer are being managed humanely
- Stalkers and deer managers undertaking their work are competent.
- Product is well handled throughout the process and premises are in order.
- High food hygiene standards are adhered to through larder work, transport and storage.
- SQWV assured venison is fully traceable.
SQWV is relevant to producers – the estates and deer forests from which wild
venison is procured – and a new standard for processors is currently in
development. The scheme, which is more than 20 years old, is voluntary and now covers around 75 per cent of all Scottish wild venison produced.
The scheme only applies to Scottish Wild Venison.
